After a brilliant career of 37 years at KGH and KHSC, Colleen Knapp is taking a well deserved retirement.

Colleen has worked in diverse roles throughout her professional career. After being a student in the Medical
laboratory Technology program, she worked as a Medical Laboratory Technologist for a number of years before
becoming the Senior Business MLT for our Laboratory Outreach Program, and as a Laboratory Manager for
Anatomical Pathology, LIS, and Outreach, for the last 12 years.

Among Colleen’s many notable accomplishments include serving as a part of the original small team of
laboratorians that built the KGH/Queen's Department of Pathology Outreach Program into a regional and trans-
regional reference centre for both core lab testing and highly specialized laboratory medicine services. Our program
has been highly regarded around the province as one of the best of its type. It excelled in customer service under
Colleen's leadership; annual audits consistently demonstrated tremendous satisfaction from our clients. Colleen did
this, in part, through excelling in multidisciplinary collaborations: Finance, Information Technology, to name just a
couple.

Colleen has been instrumental in transforming the Anatomical Pathology laboratories and services (including
Histology, Cytology, Autopsy, Regional Forensic Service, and the Moh’s clinic at HDH site) in becoming top
performers - from benchmarking and quality metrics perspectives. She was a pioneer in implementing best
practices to AP, including Lean process excellence and Value Stream Mapping. During Colleen's tenure, significant
new capital purchases were made, and implemented successfully - always with her unwavering commitment to
outstanding patient care as the cornerstone of all of her great decision making. In doing so, Colleen liberally shared
her knowledge to create a dedicated and highly effective team of laboratorians who are committed to strengthening
the impressive legacy that has been left for them.

Please join us in thanking Colleen for her outstanding contributions and wishing her the very best in her retirement
and the next chapter of her life.
Colleen’s official last day in her role as Laboratory Manager will be June 24th, 2022.

KHSC is incredibly fortunate that Colleen will be staying with us in a casual position supporting the Lumeo project,
starting August 01, 2022. This will be Colleen's final gift to us, as we look to benefit from her LIS talents in ensuring
that our workflow and design is better tomorrow than it is today.
